ARLINGTON, Texas -
Erich Lehmann led the defensive onslaught as Zach Gardner and Noel Trevino helped lead the offensive side of things with three hits apiece as the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks run-ruled the third game of their last four with a 14-4 win over the Texas-Arlington Mavericks Sunday afternoon. The win moves the Lumberjacks to 28-24 overall and 15-12 in Southland Conference action while the Mavs are now 13-36 on the year with a 4-23 SLC mark.
The Lumberjacks started off their attack slowly, scoring one run in the first inning and not crossing the plate in the second. But the floodgates opened after that, as SFA put up two runs in the third inning. The Lumberjacks followed up with a seven-run fourth inning before putting up one in the fifth and three in the sixth.
SFA's scoring was highlighted by home runs from Trevino and Kevin Crabtree. Both home runs came during the Lumberjacks' seven-run fourth-inning rally. Trevino led off with a solo shot over left field and hit a triple as the 10th batter of the inning. Crabtree hit a two-run home run right before Trevino's three-bagger. It was the first time since March 3 that Crabtree had gone yard.
On the mound, Lehmann held the Mavericks scoreless through six innings before giving up three runs in the seventh. He struck out seven to match his season high and did not issue a walk. Lehmann improves to 8-2 on the year.
Gardner was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Trevino was also 3-of-5 with two RBI and scored two runs. Steven Hill, Chris Smith, Jeff Brewer, and Kevin Crabtree all collected two hits as Smith, Crabtree and Jared Pitts each drove in two runs. As a team, the Lumberjacks hit for the cycle with two home runs, three doubles, and two triples.
SFA returns to the diamond Monday evening with a 6:30 showdown against the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman, Okla.
