SFA Heads To No. 21/27 Alabama

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team closes their seven-game road series to open the 2014 season with a three-game series at No. 21/27 Alabama beginning Friday, Feb. 21, on ESPN3.
SFA (2-2) will play its second nationally-ranked opponent in a row and third in its last four game in the program’s first-ever meeting with the Crimson Tide (2-1).
The Crimson Tide, having not played a midweek contest, enter the week 2-1 after its season-opening series with Saint Louis. Alabama is ranked No. 21 in the Baseball America and Perfect Game USA preseason polls, No. 27 by the NCBWA, No. 28 by Collegiate Baseball News and is receiving 26 votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll.
Sophomore Mikey White has led the Tide offensively through the team’s first three games. White, a second team All-SEC pick as a freshman, currently boasts a .400/.600/.538 (batting average/slugging percentage/on-base percentage) split. Alabama posted a 35-28 overall record in 2013 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 23rd time in program history and fourth under head coach Mitch Gaspard.
