NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F Austin Lumberjack baseball team returns to Jaycees Field, after seven games on the road to open the 2014 season, sending hometown native Patrick Ledet to the mound against Arkansas-Little Rock on Tuesday, Feb 25.
SFA (3-4) is coming off a hard fought weekend in Tuscaloosa where the `Jacks went 1-2, but took No. 21/27 Alabama into extra innings in two of their three games, winning 2-1 over the Crimson Tide in 13 innings in the series opener.
Ledet (0-0), who has appeared in two games this season, picked up SFA's first save of the season and first of his career in SFA's win over Alabama. Having pitched in four and a third innings already in his freshman campaign, Ledet has yet to give up a run while striking out four.
UALR is 5-2 through its first seven games entering the midweek contest, but is coming off consecutive losses to Bradley over the weekend. The Trojans fells 9-4 to Bradley on Saturday, Feb. 22, in 12 innings before dropping an 8-5 decision on Sunday. The UALR is led offensively by leadoff man Ben Crumpton's .393 batting average. The Trojan third basemen has gone 11-for-28 on the season and his three doubles leads the team.
The `Jacks is 7-8 all time with UALR since the two programs first met on the diamond in 2011 and are looking to avenge a pair of losses to the Trojans in 2013.
Outfielders Matthew Dickey and Ricardo Sanchez lead the way for SFA offensively, hitting .334 and .333, respectively. Dickey went 5-for-14 over the weekend in Tuscaloosa with a double, while Sanchez collected three hits across the series with Alabama.
