SFA Opens Southland Conference Play At Home
March 13, 2014
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team will open Southland Conference play on Friday, beginning a three-game series with McNeese State at Jaycees Field.
SFA (7-7) is coming off a 1-2 week, dropping a road series at Wichita State. The 'Jacks clipped the Shockers in a 1-0 pitchers duel in the series opener, behind eight solid innings from junior Cameron Gann. The good fortune did not continue for SFA however, dropping both games in the series conclusion in a Sunday doubleheader.
Freshman Nick Ramos led the way for the 'Jacks their last time out. Ramos finished 6-for-12 (.500) in the series at WSU.
SFA is 20-31 all-time against McN, taking two games in the three meetings between the two teams last season.
The Cowboys bring a 10-5 record into the weekend, winning six of their last 10 games. McN recently traveled to Natchitoches for a three-game round-robin tournament at Northwestern State. The Cowboys defeated the NWST twice with a 10-5 win on Saturday and 6-2 victory on Sunday. McN also dropped a 6-3 decision with Chicago State.
The Cowboys will send juniors Cole Prejean (RHP), Michael Clemens (RHP) and a pitcher to be determined to the mound opposite the 'Jacks rotation. SFA will send Gann to the mound on Friday, with senior Kyle Cross and junior Dillon Mangham slated for the weekend.
Fans can buy tickets at the gate at Jaycees Field. Adults are $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 9-18. Children under 8 years old get in free. SFA students get in free with their student ID. Chairback seats are $8.
