FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin senior outfielder Ricardo Sanchez was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Sanchez, a native of Houston, Texas, led the Lumberjacks to their second SLC series victory in as many weeks, going 9-for-15 across three games at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (April 4-6). Sanchez, who did not play at Arkansas-Little Rock on April 1, recorded multi-hit games in each contest across the series to finish with a .600/.733/.647 split.
Sanchez finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the series opener and followed with a 3-for-5 performance with two RBI and a run scored in the 12-10 win on Saturday for the ‘Jacks. In the series conclusion, Sanchez went 4-for-6 with two doubles and scored the game-winning run with a two-out RBI single to left field in the top of the ninth to put SFA on top 7-6.
Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player. To receive honorable mention, a player must receive votes from 25 percent of the Southland sports information directors.
Sanchez and SFA will open a five game homestand on Tuesday. The ‘Jacks will host New Mexico on consecutive days, beginning April 8, before taking on Oral Roberts in SLC play in a three-game series starting on April 11.
