Greening Named SLC Pitcher Of The Week
April 15, 2013
FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin starting pitcher Chase Greening was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday in an announcement made by league officials.
It is the first time in Greening's career he has earned such an honor, and the first time a Lumberjack has earned a weekly honor this season.
The senior from Lufkin, Texas, came just two outs away from the first no-hitter in SFA history, and potentially the third in the Southland this season in a 3-0 win at McNeese State on Friday.
The right-hander retired the first 20 hitters he faced before his perfect game was lost on a walk with two outs in the seventh inning. Still, he was dominating on the night, punching out 10 Cowboys to reach double figures in strikeouts for the second time this season.
His no-hitter was broken up with one out in the ninth and he was pulled after tossing 130 pitches, exiting with a 3-0 lead.
Greening ranks in the top 10 in the league in both ERA and strikeouts this season.
