LAKE CHARLES, La. - The SFA baseball team took a 3-1 lead over McNeese State into the seventh inning before rain forced the game to be suspended until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Tanner Hines and Zach Gardner had combined for five hits and SFA starter Erich Lehmann was cruising through 6.1 innings of work before lightning in the area forced a delay that was soon followed by rain that doused the outfield at Cowboy Diamond.
The game was called with one out in the bottom of the seventh with Andy Riche' at the plate with an 0-2 count against Lehmann, and is the spot where the game will be resumed on Saturday.
The teams will attempt to finish the game before starting Game 2 immediately after the conclusion of Game 1. The second of the game of the series was originally scheduled for 3:00 p.m., however storms are still in the forecast in the Lake Charles area for Saturday.
If the teams do not conclude Game 1 before Sunday morning the game will be called with the team in the lead being deemed the winner. The teams would then attempt to play a pair of nine-inning games on Sunday to close out the series.
Fans can access Gametracker on the SFA schedule page to find an up-to-the-pitch recap of the game.
