The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team will close their four-game homestand on Tuesday, hosting No. 13 TCU in a 6:30 p.m. first pitch at Jaycees Field. The midweek tilt will mark the first time the Horned Frogs have come to Nacogdoches, Texas, since the 1992 season.
The `Jacks enter the week at 17-26 overall and 8-13 in Southland Conference play. Last week, SFA dropped three-of-four, falling 7-6 to Dallas Baptist on April 22 in 10 innings after holding a 6-0 lead after three innings. The `Jacks then got a complete-game effort from junior Dillon Mangham in 10-2 series-opening victory over Lamar, before falling 7-3 and 5-4 over the final two games. TCU enters the midweek tilt at 30-13 overall and 10-5 in Big 12 action.
SFA will start junior Halden Maynard against TCU's Jordan Kipper. Maynard enters Tuesday 0-2 on the season through nine appearances and five starts, all in the midweek, while Kipper carries a 6-2 record through 11 appearances and nine starts on the season.
Players of Note
Heading into the week, senior Mackenzie Handel has continued to enjoy a steady season at the plate, leading both the team and Southland Conference in several offensive categories. Handel is tied for the league mark in homeruns (8) and RBI (40), sitting second in slugging percentage (.577), walks (32) and total bases (90). The native of Chandler, Ariz., ranks fifth in the SLC in on-base percentage (.452), also leading the `Jacks in batting average (.340), runs (26) and hits (53).
Senior Zach Marberry currently leads the league with 15 doubles, boasting a .277/.439/.364 split. Marberry's doubles mark ranks 41st in the nation. SFA leads the conference with 74 doubles as a team.
The Horned Frogs enter the week 30-13 overall and 10-5 in Big 12 play, having won eight straight games. TCU, which most recently swept Cal State Northridge, winning 6-2, 1-0 and 3-0, over the weekend, will play its fourth consecutive non-conference game, when the Horned Frogs play at SFA on Tuesday. TCU enters the week, ranked as high as 13th in the polls, according to Collegiate Baseball. The Horned Frogs are also 17th in Baseball America, 21st in USA Today Coaches' Poll and 22nd according to the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). TCU's RPI sits currently 18th in the nation. The Horned Frogs success thus far is thanks in large part to their pitching, which ranks second in the nation in strikeout-to-walk-ratio (3.96), and ninth in ERA at 2.30. Brandon Finnegan sits third in the nation with 12 strikeouts per nine innings. Finnegan also ranks 34th in ERA (1.50), while teammate Preston Morrison is in a three-way tie for 27th (1.42). Closer Riley Ferrell is in an 11-way tie for saves (10). Also ranked, Cody Jones sits in a four-way tie for 45th in stolen bases (19/0.44 avg.).

'Jacks Take Down TCU
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks exploded for a six-run fifth inning, and got a great night on the mound from four arms in pulling off a 6-3 win over TCU on Wednesday night at Lupton Stadium.
Versus The Opponent: Tuesday's game will mark the 14th meeting between the two teams with TCU leading the all-time series 9-4. SFA has won its last two meetings with the Horned Frogs, picking up a 4-3 win in 2011 and a 6-3 victory in 2013. Last season, the `Jacks exploded for a six-run fifth inning and got solid pitching from four arms to rattle off the team's fourth straight win at the time. Tuesday's game also marks the first time TCU has come to Nacogdoches, Texas, since the 1992 season and just the fourth time in the series history. SFA is 1-2 all time against the Horned Frogs at home.
The Last Time Out
The `Jacks led 4-1, but could not hold on in a 5-4 loss to Lamar on Sunday morning at Jaycees Field. SFA was held scoreless after the fourth inning, as the Cardinals won their fourth straight Southland Conference series.
Tuesday's game will serve as "Military Appreciation Night" at Jaycees Field. All current and former members of the military will receive one free general admission ticket.
The `Jacks will next return to conference play, hitting the road for a three-game series at Sam Houston State, beginning Friday. Following the series, SFA will play no midweek game in preparation for its final home series in Nicholls State running May 9-11.
