Hunter Dozier was named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy on Thursday by the NCBWA.

DALLAS, Texas - Stephen F. Austin shortstop Hunter Dozier was named a semifinalist for the 2013 Dick Howser Trophy, presented by Easton Foundations, an announcement made by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Thursday. The award, given to the top player in college baseball, is based on two rounds of voting.
Dozier is one of 40 players throughout the country to be named to the semifinal list, and the only player from the Southland Conference. In all the candidates hail from 17 different conferences and 31 different schools.
He currently leads the Southland in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.395), home runs (17), doubles (23) and slugging percentage (.774). In addition, he is currently riding a school-record streak of reaching base safely in 43 consecutive games.
Dozier is the first player in Lumberjack baseball history to be named to the semifinal list for the Howser Trophy. He is also a national semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award, an honor given to the nation's top shortstop.
The finalists for the Dick Howser Trophy will be announced on Thursday, June 6. The award will be presented at TD Ameritrade Stadium in downtown Omaha, on Saturday, June 15 at 10:00 a.m. CT, the opening day of the College World Series.
