June 19, 2013
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Southland Conference Player and Hitter of the Year Hunter Dozier has been named to the 2013 Academic All-Southland Conference First Team, announced league officials Wednesday afternoon. A first-team All-America selection, Dozier was also the No. 8 overall draft pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft by the Kansas City Royals.
For the overwhelming numbers he put up on the diamond, Dozier was every bit as successful in the classroom. The Denton, Texas native, maintained a 3.0 grade-point average in the classroom. To be nominated for the academic all-conference squad players must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, be a starter or significant reserve and compete in at least 50 percent of all games.
One of the most dominating players in school and conference history, Dozier led the league in batting average, doubles and home runs during his junior season, and finished ranked among the national leaders in each category.
Dozier still has the potential to receive more hardware this season. He was recently named one of three finalists for the Brooks Wallace Award, given annually to the nation’s top shortstop. The school’s all-time leader in hits and doubles became the first Lumberjack in program history to be named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.
