LAFAYETTE, La. – Stephen F. Austin outfielder Matthew Dickey continued his standout summer for the East Texas Pump Jacks of the Texas Collegiate League, tying the league’s single-season stolen base record.
Dickey swiped his 39th bag of the season Wednesday, Aug. 7, in a 7-5 win over the Acadiana Cane Cutters. The stolen base ties Brock Herbert (2010) and Matt Young (2004) for the single-season mark.
The record comes one day after teammate and SFA signee Garrett McMullen hit his 17th double of the summer season to tie Zac Fisher (2010) for the single-season record.
Having already captured the franchise record Aug. 3, Dickey needs just one more stolen base to become the league’s outright single-season record holder. McMullen’s next two-bagger will also make him the lone record holder in his offensive category.
Only two games remain in the regular season, which concludes Friday, Aug. 9. The Pump Jacks will square off against the Texas Marshalls, in a two-game home series at Driller Park in Kilgore, Texas, beginning Aug. 8.
