Dickey Steals Share of TCL Honor
Aug. 10, 2013
KILGORE, Texas - Stephen F. Austin outfielder Matthew Dickey capped off his standout summer season for the East Texas Pump Jacks being named Texas Collegiate League Co-Freshman of the Year, league officials announced at the close of the regular season.
Dickey set a TCL single-season record in the second to last game of the season, recording his 40th stolen base in a 5-2 win over the Texas Marshalls Thursday, Aug. 8. Dickey, a TCL all-star, swiped 18 bags over a 10-game span late in the season to eclipse the mark.
The Kilgore, Texas, native, hit .322 in the regular season, which was good enough for third in the league. Dickey also posted a .409 on-base percentage, while leading the team with 32 runs and adding 22 walks.
Dickey becomes the fifth Pump Jack in as many years to be named or at least receive a share of the freshman honor. Former Lumberjack teammate and eighth overall selection of the Kansas City Royals, Hunter Dozier, also did so in the summer of 2012.
