Dozier Named Preseason Third Team All-America
Dec. 21, 2012
TUCSON, Ariz. - Stephen F. Austin junior shortstop Hunter Dozier has been named to the 2013 Louisville Slugger preseason third team all-America squad as announced by Collegiate Baseball newspaper Friday.
A first team all-South Central Region selection in 2012, Dozier became the first shortstop in program history to be named first team all-Southland Conference as a sophomore.
The junior from Denton, Texas, led SFA in nearly every offensive category a year ago, hitting .357 with 10 home runs, 37 RBI and also led the league with a school-record 22 doubles while being one of just two on the roster to start and play in all 59 games on the year.
His .595 slugging percentage was second in the league only to UTA's Preston Beck - a 5th-round draft pick of the Texas Rangers - while also being one of just four players in the SLC to hit at least 10 home runs on the season.
That came on the heels of a freshman season in 2010 in which he hit .315 with 34 RBI and 13 doubles in 50 starts. He enters his junior season needing just one more two-bagger to tie the school doubles record for his career and nine RBI to break into the school's top 10 in that category.
Dozier, became the first Lumberjack in program history to earn preseason all-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association on Dec. 13. Former `Jacks Steven Hill and Bryson Myles have previously earned postseason nods from the association.
Dozier is one of three Southland Players to be named to a preseason all-America team entering the 2013 season. Oral Roberts' third basemen Jose Trevino joined Dozier on the Louisville Slugger third-team squad, while Golden Eagle pitcher Drew Bowen was named third team by the NCBWA earlier this month. Dozier is the only one of the three to have played in the SLC a year ago.
Dozier and the `Jacks open up the 2013 season on Feb. 15 with a three-game series at South Alabama.
