    SFA Wins Thriller, Extends Win Streaks

    TULSA, Okla. – The Stephen F. Austin men’s basketball team trailed for 31:86, but got a put-back layup from senior Nikola Gajic with 33 seconds remaining and closed on a 4-2 run to hold off Oral Roberts 72-69 Thursday night inside Mabee Center.

    Junior Jacob Parker recorded 19 points and senior Desmond Haymon finished with 15 points, as SFA (17-2, 6-0 SLC) extended its current win streaks to 14-straight and seventh-straight wins on the road. The seven-game road win streak leads the nation, while its 14 consecutive win mark still sits fifth.

    Parker, a native of Bixby, Okla, finished 7-of-10 from the field with a made three-pointer and 4-of-7 from the line across 34 minutes. The 19 points is the most for Parker in the current road swing for the ‘Jacks.

    In all, SFA placed four players in double-figures. Seniors Deshaunt Walker and Gajic, who finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

    The ‘Jacks held a 30-26 margin in points in the paint, 23-13 difference in points off turnovers, 14-10 edge in fast-break points and 16-8 advantage in bench scoring, all proving pivotal factors in various points throughout the comeback at ORU (10-9, 4-2 SLC).

    SFA wasted little time in the opening minutes of the game, jumping out 6-0. The ‘Jacks would go on to lead by as much as 14, surging to a 25-11 lead in the first 11:04. However, the Golden Eagles held SFA scoreless across the next 3:23, making a run 12-0 run over their own, before eventually tying it 29-29 with 4:08 to play. With the score even, the ORU closed on a 12-5 run to take a 41-34 lead into the break.

    Haymon paced the ‘Jacks in the first 20 minutes with 12 points, while Parker closed the half scoring the final seven points for SFA.

    In the second half, the ‘Jacks managed to pull even with on three occasions, before Gajic hit the layup to give the ‘Jacks back the lead.

    SFA will close its five-game road swing on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Central Arkansas. The ‘Jacks are set to tip at 4:00 p.m. with the bears inside Farris Center.
