NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Eleven Stephen F. Austin players cracked the scoring column and the Lumberjacks, after building a 40-13 halftime lead, cruised by visiting LSU Shreveport, 73-46 on Saturday at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
The `Jacks (6-1) got forced 23 Pilot (6-3) turnovers and outscored the LSUS bench 40-7, while Jacob Parker pumped in 16 points and six rebounds to lead the way. SFA shot 42.9 percent from the floor, getting 21 assists on its 27 made baskets, including six from senior point guard Hal Bateman.
All but two Lumberjacks to see the floor managed to score, while just one Pilot finished in double figures - Rodney Milum with 15.
The win gives SFA its best seven-game start since the 1981-82 season and is the final game for the `Jacks for seven days as they will now take a week off for final exams.
Taylor Smith hit all four of his shots from the floor for eight points to go with four boards and four blocks, while Ice Asortse added 11 points and five rebounds off the bench. Parker hit each of his three-point tries, but SFA was just 5-for-24 from beyond the arc on the night against the LSUS zone defense.
The `Jacks opened the game on a 16-4 run in the first five minutes and managed to hold the Pilots in single digits until the 4:20 mark of the half on a pair of foul shots from Milum. SFA hit just 40 percent of its shots in the opening half, but got nine points from Parker and hauled in 13 offensive rebounds.
It then took SFA less than three minutes of the second half lead to push its margin past 30 on Parker's second three-pointer of the night and the `Jacks put it on cruise control from there, pulling its starting five less than seven minutes into the second period.
SFA will next be in action on Saturday, December 15 at home vs Lubbock Christian before traveling to Norman, Okla., three days later to take on the Sooners.
