Walkup Named SLC POW

FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin sophomore guard Thomas Walkup has been named the has been named the Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Walkup played a pivotal role in helping SFA to a 2-0 mark on the week, as the `Jacks improved to 15-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Walkup recorded a career-high 27 points, the margin of SFA's 77-50 victory at Houston Baptist, finishing 11-of-13 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line Thursday night.
The native of Pasadena, Texas, then followed with the first double-double of his career, with 21 points and 10 rebounds, in a 80-70 victory at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi on Saturday. Walkup finished 7-of-13 from the floor with two made three-pointers and 5-of-6 free throws along with his 10 boards.
The `Jacks, currently riding a 12-game winning streak, are in the midst of a five-game road swing. SFA will next play at Northwestern State on Thursday, Jan. 16. The `Jacks will tip with NWST at 7:30 p.m. inside Prather Coliseum.
