Lumberjacks Look To Continue Road Run

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's basketball team took sole possession the nation's longest active home win streak over the weekend and now look to reclaim the longest active road win streak and overall road wins with two away contests at Lamar and Sam Houston State beginning Thursday night.
First-year head coach Brad Underwood and the Lumberjacks (22-2, 11-0 SLC) picked up a pair of wins over Nicholls and McNeese State in Week 14 to tie and pass No. 8/9 Duke for the longest active home mark at 30-straight wins inside William R. Johnson Coliseum.
The winning ways for SFA continue to garner national attention as the `Jacks remained third in CollegeInsider.com's Mid-Major Top 25 poll, the highest ranking in program history, and eighth in the Mid-Major Madness Power 15.
For a fourth-straight week, SFA received one vote in the USA Today Coaches Poll and for the first time this season, the `Jacks gained three votes in the Associated Press' Top 25. SFA received votes in both polls last season and in the 2007-08 year.
The `Jacks, who haven't lost since Nov. 23, have continued to sit atop the nation in several win streaks. SFA picked up its 19-straight overall win, which ranks fourth in the nation, continuing to build on the second-longest all-time streak for the `Jacks. The previous second mark was 16 set back in the 1971-72 season. The program's all-time mark is 29-straight, set during the 1969-70 campaign.
Despite not playing on the road in four games, SFA ranks second nationally with an eight-game win streak away from William R. Johnson Coliseum and 10 road wins overall.
Underwood continues to extend his first-year success with 22 wins, already the program's all-time winningest head coach in their first season at SFA. With the 74-58 victory at Northwestern State back on Jan. 16, Underwood passed Glen Rose (1948) and John O. Stephens (1952), who both recorded 15 wins back in their respective first seasons.
One of 351 NCAA Division I men's basketball programs in the country, the `Jacks currently rank in the top 10 in both turnover margin (5th-5.8) and win percentage (T5th-91.7). SFA also ranks 12th in scoring margin (13.5), 16th in assists per game (16.3) and 20th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.43). Defensively, the `Jacks rank 22nd in scoring defense (61.9) and are 74th in scoring offense (75.4).
Other statistics of note, SFA ranks 39th in steals per game (7.8) and 57th in rebounding margin (4.2).
The `Jacks will look reclaim the longest active road mark with two games away from William R. Johnson Coliseum in Week 15. SFA will play Lamar on Thursday, Feb. 13, followed by Sam Houston State on Saturday, Feb. 15, in a streamed game on ESPN3.
