FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin sophomore Desmond Haymon has been named to the Southland Conference Men's Basketball All-Academic team, according to an announcement Wednesday by league officials. Haymon is a first-team honoree on the 10-man list.
The Durant, Miss., native was third on the team in scoring with 8.2 points per game and fourth in rebounding with 4.3 rebounds per contest, playing in all 32 games and starting 31 in helping lead the Lumberjacks to its fourth 20-win season in the last five years and a second-place finish in the Southland Conference. He led SFA with 32 3-point buckets on the year and had a career-high 18 points in a Jan. 25 win over Sam Houston State.
Haymon, a kinesiology and healthy science major, had a 3.04 cumulative GPA going into the spring semester. His selection marks the second straight season SFA has had an academic all-SLC selection after Jordan Glynn was also named to the first team one year ago. Glynn's selection was the first academic selection for SFA since Scott Weaver in 2007-08.
