FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin put a league-high three players on the Southland Conference Men's Basketball All-Academic team, according to a league announcement Tuesday by league officials.

Junior Desmond Haymon and sophomore Jacob Parker were each named to the first team, while redshirt freshman Thomas Walkup was a second-team choice. It is the second consecutive year Haymon has been named to the academic team, while it's the first selection for both Parker and Walkup in their first year of eligibility for the honor.

"After the year we had on the court, it is great to see that our guys were still able to take care of their business off the court as well," SFA assistant head coach Brette Tanner said. "Each of these guys worked very hard this year and I'm happy to see them get the recognition that they deserve."

Haymon finished the fall semester with a 3.20 cumulative GPA in kinesiology and health science. He was an all-academic first team choice as a sophomore in 2012 and backed it up with a first team selection as a junior in 2013.

He was third on the team, averaging 10.6 points per game and was named to the all-tournament team at the Southland Conference Tournament. A native of Durant, Miss., he finished the year on a strong note, hitting for double figures in each of his last seven games and averaging 13.1 points per contest in the last 12 games of the year.

Parker, from Bixby, Okla., finished the fall with a 3.54 GPA in kinesiology as well. The true sophomore had a breakout second year in a Lumberjack uniform, starting all 32 games and averaging 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest. He led the `Jacks in three-point percentage with a .413 mark. He reached double figures 10 times on the year, six times coming in Southland Conference play. His biggest day came in his return to the Tulsa area when he pumped in 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting in a 57-41 rout on Tulsa's home floor.

Walkup also burst onto the scene as SFA's sixth man in his redshirt freshman season. He averaged just 4.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, but pulled in nearly 2.0 offensive boards per game in 18.5 minutes off the bench. He gave the `Jacks instant versatility and depth and saw season highs in minutes in each of SFA's final three games of the year. A kinesiology major as well, Walkup finished the fall semester with a 3.41 GPA.

The trio marks the third straight season SFA has placed a player on the all-academic squad, and the first time for the `Jacks to land three players on the team in program history.

The teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic advisors from each Southland Conference university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
