Lumberjacks To Face Three in Music City

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin today confirmed its participation in the 2015 American Sports Network Challenge in Music City, being held November 26-29 at the Nashville Municipal Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Lumberjacks are one of six teams competing in the event and will play three games during the event. SFA opens the tournament facing Western Michigan at 3:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, facing the Broncos on Thursday, November 26. The ‘Jacks then face Tulane at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 27, before closing out the tournament taking on Appalachian State at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 29.

American Sports Network is the title sponsor of the event and the television partner of the tournament. ASN will televise a number of games throughout the weekend with a final television list being released at a later date.

The three opponents will be brand new to the Lumberjacks as the games in Nashville mark the first-ever meeting for SFA against Western Michigan, Tulane and Appalachian State.

Western Michigan is coming off a 20-14 season in 2014-15, finishing 10-8 in the Mid American Conference and placing third in the MAC West Division. The Broncos advanced to the second round of the 2015 MAC Tournament and were selected to play in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament, falling to Cleveland State 86-57 in the opening round.

Tulane is coming off a 15-16 campaign last season and finished 6-12 in the American Athletic Conference, tying for seventh. The Green Wave dropped its opening round game to Houston in the AAC tournament as Tulane returns its leading scorer in Louis Dabney, who ranked seventh in the conference averaging 13.6 points per game.

Appalachian State posted a 12-17 record in 2014-15 and went 9-11 in the Sun Belt Conference, tying for sixth in the league. Frank Eaves, the Mountaineers’ leading scorer in 2014-15, returns as he ranked fourth in the Sun Belt, averaging 16.6 points per game while ranking 11th in the league in steals (1.3 spg).

The trio of games continues to form SFA’s 2015-16 schedule as the Lumberjacks continue their quest to build on back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. SFA has now confirmed seven non-conference games for the upcoming season, playing at Baylor on Nov. 13, at Northern Iowa on Nov. 17, at Arizona State on Dec. 22 and at Alabama-Birmingham on Dec. 29.
