The annual Mardi Gras Madness will close out the Friday night events of the 79th annual Homecoming weekend at Stephen F. Austin. There will competitions for top-dollar prizes, entertainment by the SFA spirit squads and evening will be highlighted by the SFA men's and women's basketball teams taking the court. The festivities will begin Friday, Oct. 26, at 11:30 p.m. in the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
Mardi Gras Madness celebrates the opening of the SFA basketball season for the Ladyjack and Lumberjack squads. Admission is free. T-shirts, Mardi Gras beads and other assorted items will be given away during the night's event.
Highlights of the evening include contests where students compete for a variety of prizes. The winner of one competition could win $1,000 in tuition for the spring semester at SFA during a contest sponsored by Joe Max Green Insurance Concepts. Barnes & Noble UC Bookstore will sponsor a book certificate for the winner of another contest.
The Varsity Bookstore will sponsor a "Free Throw Knockout" contest, where student organizations will compete a $600 cash prize. A maximum of 20 organizations can enter the contest, and each organization can have one representative. Organizations can sign up for the "Free Throw Knockout" contest at the Student Activities Association in Room 3.305 of the Baker Pattillo Student Center. The sign-up deadline for is Tuesday, Oct. 23rd.
