Lumberjacks Set For Exhibition Opener

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team will play its exhibition opener Friday, Nov. 1, against Arkansas Tech at 7:00 p.m. inside William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA will play its first exhibition opener since the 2009-10 campaign and first under new head coach Brad Underwood. The `Jacks are 6-1 in their last seven exhibition openers, with the lone loss coming in double-overtime decision against Texas A&M-Commerce in 2005.
SFA is coming off a 27-5 campaign in 2012-13, in which the men set a school record in wins and claimed their third Southland Conference title in program history.
Senior Desmond Haymon and junior Jacob Parker are among six letterman returning from last year's squad. Both Haymon (First Team) and Parker (Second Team) were named to the preseason All-SLC teams, as SFA was tabbed third and fourth in the polls. The `Jacks returns two starters, in Haymon and Parker, and will begin the 2013-14 season with eight newcomers.
ATU went 18-12 and earned a share of the Great American Conference title last season. The Wonder Boys have advanced to the regional tournament at the Division II level each of the last five seasons.
Following Friday's exhibition, SFA will host UT-Tyler Nov. 8 to open the regular season.
