NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin head men's basketball coach Brad Underwood announced the signing of five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent Wednesday morning during the early signing period. The class includes three junior college transfers and two prep stars.

The class includes Ty Charles (Kennedale, TX; Kennedale HS), Demetrious Floyd (St. Louis, MO; Chipolla College), Clide Geffard (Pompano, FL; Northwest Florida State College), Jared Johnson (Columbia, S.C.; Hill College) and Jaxon Holden (Highland, TX; Marcus HS).

"I am very, very pleased with this group, as we met our recruiting needs," Underwood said. "We signed some premier perimeter guys, while also adding athleticism and shooting. We built a very solid base with the signing a couple of high school kids, in Ty and Jaxon, who will help solidify the program for the future. With this class, we feel like we have filled the void left by our senior departures."

Ty Charles - Kennedale, TX (Kennedale HS), 6-5, Guard
A two-star recruit according to rivals.com, Charles is the 33rd ranked player in the state of Texas. In his prep campaign at Kennedale High School, Charles has averaged just a double-double a game, with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while adding six assists per contest.

"I knew it was SFA all along since my first visit," Charles said. "SFA is where I wanted to go and I took my time. Coach Underwood is whom I want to play for. The program has a tradition of winning, and with Coach Underwood there, he is going to develop players into pros. He has coached at the top level, coaching some of the best players in the nation while he was at Kansas State and South Carolina. Coach is going to use his experience to grow the players and develop them.

"I will have the chance to hit the court right away, as [SFA] will graduate three guards after this season, and they recruited me to fill the void that the guards will leave. The pieces are in place there to be a team that goes deep into the tournament, and I will be the piece they are missing. Everything just feels right and in place for me to go there."

Charles enters his senior season under head coach Doug Groff and the Wildcats, after putting up 533 points as a junior. In 2012-13, Charles was 207-of-377 (.549) from the field and 30-of-73 (.411) from beyond the arc. The 6-5 native of Forest Hill, Texas, participated in the 2013 Reebok Breakout Classic in Philadelphia over the summer.

He played club basketball for head coach Stacy Houston and the DJH5 Elite of the AAU.

    Underwood on Charles:
"Ty is the multi-talented, versatile athlete, that can play any position on the perimeter. He is not just going to be a good player, but a great player for us. He has tremendous work ethic and high character. As one of the elite players in the state of Texas, he has you excited for the future of SFA basketball."
