Matt Williamson is in his third season as the Lumberjacks’ defensive coordinator, working primarily with SFA’s linebacking corps.

Among the SFA linebacking unit, Williamson helped form senior Justin Owens into one of the top defensive players in the Southland Conference, finishing among the SLC leaders with 100 total tackles, including 44 solo stops, earning All-SLC honorable mention honors.

In addition, newcomer Price Miller ranked second on the team with 52 tackles and enters 2016 ready to anchor SFA’s linebacking unit.

Taking over the reign of SFA’s defensive game plan, SFA held opponents to 28.5 points and 408.8 yards per game, 21 points and 120 yards fewer than the ‘Jacks gave up in 2013. Among the Lumberjack linebackers, senior Collin Garrett earned first team All-SLC honors, ranking among the conference leaders in tackles.

Williamson has worked side-by-side with coach Conque for the past eight years, serving as Central Arkansas’ defensive coordinator and linebackers coach since the 2007 season. Under Williamson, UCA led the Southland in scoring defense three-straight seasons, leading the league in total defense in 2009.

Prior to his time in Conway, Williamson spent seven seasons on the staff at Missouri Western State, serving as the Griffons’ defensive line coach during that span as well as taking on the role of defensive coordinator in 2005.
