HOUSTON, Texas - The Sam Houston State Bearkats broke open a 10-3 game with 45 unanswered points to run away with its first win over SFA since 2008, 45-10, in front of 25,083 fans on Saturday at Reliant Stadium.

SFA (1-5, 0-2 SLC)held the Bearkats (5-0, 2-0 SLC) to just 17 rushing yards in the first half, but ended up with five turnovers on the afternoon, three of which Sam Houston turned into 17 points.

Brady Attaway completed 36 of 63 passes for 251 yards, but tossed four interceptions, including two to set up Bearkat scores in the third quarter alone. Cordell Roberson finished with seven catches for 79 yards on the day with a touchdown, while Gralyn Crawford moved into third all-time at SFA in career receptions with 11 for 64 yards.

SFA's defense did its job in the first quarter, halting the Bearkats and getting a missed 28-yard field goal from Miguel Antonio to keep Sam Houston off the scoreboard in the first 15 minutes. The `Jacks then took a 3-0 lead when Jordan Wiggs connected on a season-long, 41-yard field goal from the left hash with 6:43 left in the half to close out a 10-play, 65-yard drive.

But Sam Houston had an immediate answer when Brian Bell found Torrance Williams on a screen pass for a 49-yard touchdown, and took advantage of two SFA turnovers within the final four minutes of the half to tack on a 30-yard field goal from Antonio to go into the locker room up 10-3.

The Bearkats then took little time to break the game open, scoring on each of their first three possessions of the second half, before the Lumberjacks managed a first down, on two touchdowns from Tim Flanders and one from Keith Blanton to stretch the lead to a comfortable margin at 31-3. Richard Sincere then added a score from six-yards out on the first play of the fourth quarter for SHSU's third rushing touchdown of the afternoon.

Attaway found Roberson in the end zone for a seven-yard touchdown with 7:33 left in the game to cap a 12-play, 75-yard drive for SFA's lone touchdown of the afternoon.

The Lumberjacks will take their bye week this upcoming week before going on the road to take on Nicholls on Oct. 22 in Thibodaux, La.
