CONWAY, Ark. – The big plays of the No. 20/23 Central Arkansas offense proved to be too much for the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team, falling 66-31 on the road Saturday afternoon at First Security Field at Estes Stadium.

The 66 points allowed is the most given up to an FCS opponent since the ‘Jacks (3-5, 1-2 SLC) surrendered 70 to No. 8 Montana in the 1995 NCAA Division I-AA Semi-Finals.

With the win, UCA (5-3, 2-1 SLC) improved to 13-1 all-time in Homecoming games.

Sophomore wide receiver Tyler Boyd factored in three of SFA’s four touchdowns, catching two and passing for one on a 73-yard pass to DJ Ward off of a reverse. Boyd finished with 10 receptions for 91 yards, while the touchdown pass the second of the season for the native of Dangerfield, Texas.

Ward highlighted the receiving core for the ‘Jacks, with 142 yards on eight receptions. Running back Joshawa West led SFA on the ground with 75 yards on 15 carries.

Senior quarterback Brady Attaway completed 41-of-63 passes for 442 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Backup Joe Minden added a touchdown on the ground on a two-yard rush in the closing minute of the game.

Junior kicker Jordan Wiggs got SFA on the board first, capping off a 13-play, 66-yard drive (4:05), with a 39-yard field goal with 7:45 left in the first quarter.

The Bears answered on their next possession with a two-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Courtney Whitehead from Ryan Howard less than three minutes later. The touchdown pass was the first of his four for the junior quarterback.

Following a 12-yard rushing touchdown from fellow UCA quarterback Taylor Reed, the ‘Jacks pulled within four on Boyd’s touchdown pass to Ward with 13:38 left in the second quarter. UCA responded quickly, with a 45-yard touchdown pass to junior Dezmin Lewis to retake an 11-point advantage. The touchdown pass capped off a two-play, 46-yard drive and was the third touchdown scored within in 90 seconds of gameplay. The 21-10 score would span the rest of the half.

The Bears scored immediately at the beginning of the third quarter, returning the kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown. After SFA responded with a touchdown drive of their own, coming on a four-yard competition from Attaway to Boyd, UCA drove down field in under a minute to take a 35-17 advantage.

After Attaway refound Boyd for a 10-yard touchdown pass with 7:45 in the third quarter, the Bears scored 31 unanswered points before Minden punched one in with 36 seconds remaining.

The ‘Jacks will next travel to Houston for the Battle of the Piney Woods at Reliant Stadium, home of the Houston Texans. The game against Sam Houston State is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, and will be televised on the Southland Conference TV Network.
