Jan. 8, 2013
Frisco, Texas - Junior offensive lineman Ryne Chambers and receiver Aaron Thomas have been named Academic All-Southland Conference announced league officials Tuesday afternoon. Players had to maintain a 3.2 grade-point average, be a starter or significant contributor and play in at least 50 percent of all competitions.
Chambers was a key figure on one of the top offensive lines in the nation. The Lumberjacks finished ranked among the nation's elite in pass protection, despite putting the ball in the air nearly 700 times last season. The 'Jacks offense led the nation in passing, and finished second in the country in total offense, while blocking for first-team all-conference selection Gus Johnson.
Thomas played a key role at the end of the season when he was thrust into a starting role due to several injuries among the 'Jacks' receiving unit. He started two of the final three games hauling 32 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns.
