SFA Receiver Named to Freshman All-America Team

D.J. Ward

Jan. 22, 2013

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Stephen F. Austin receiver D.J. Ward has been named to the 2012 College Sports Journal All-Freshman team announced publication officials Tuesday afternoon. The announcement comes just 24 hours after senior receiver Cordell Roberson garnered first-team All-America honors.

Ward was a bright spot for the 'Jacks during the 2012 season. The Woodlands, Texas native, overcame a veteran lineup of receivers to earn a starting role for the Lumberjacks. Due to several key injuries Ward became a go-to receiver throughout the season.

He finished second on the team hauling in 62 passes for 762 yards and four touchdowns. The only receiver to catch more passes for more yards in the Southland Conference was Roberson. He averaged better than 12 yards per catch, and nearly 70 yards receiving yards per game.

Ward closed out the 2012 season by garnering second-team All-SLC honors.
