Santiago Hires New Defensive Line Coach

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin head football coach Mike Santiago announced today the hiring of Kenny Washington as defensive line coach for the 2001 season. Washington fills the vacancy on the coaching staff created by the departure of Arlington Nunn last week. Nunn accepted a position as receivers coach at Troy State University.
Washington joins the SFA staff after spending the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Dallas Carter High School. Prior to his stay at Carter, Washington spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Killeen Ellison where he was on the staff of current SFA run game coordinator Robert Walker.
The 1993 graduate of Northeastern State University in Oklahoma was a four year letterwinner at Northeastern Oklahoma and spent two seasons as a graduate assistant while earning his master's degree. He was on the staff that helped Northeastern Oklahoma win an NAIA national championship in 1994.
Washington joins the Lumberjack staff as they prepare for the opening of spring practice, March 19. The `Jacks open the season September 1, as they host Portland State in Homer Bryce Stadium.
