NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin head football coach Clint Conque has announced five additions to the 2014 Lumberjack football roster. The five transfers have enrolled in school and have begun summer workouts with the SFA football team.
“We’re very excited to add these young men to our initial signing class,” Conque said. “Each of them will have the opportunity to provide an immediate impact and add some competition at key positions. We’re looking to add one or two additional signees, and then we are eager to take advantage of the new NCAA legislation to spend some teaching opportunities during the summer months.”
On offense, SFA adds a pair of Division I FBS transfers in Michael Boddie and A.J. Jones. Boddie is an offensive lineman that spent three seasons at Missouri, serving as a member of the Tigers’ SEC East championship team. The Gilmer native was also an all-state selection and three-time all district honoree that helped lead the Buckeyes to a state championship as a junior.
Jones is a wide receiver that comes to Nacogdoches after spending one year at Iowa, utilizing his redshirt season. The Dallas native graduated from South Oak Cliff where he helped guide the Bears to a 19-3 record over his junior and senior seasons.
Conque also added some depth in the defensive secondary with three transfers. Hipolito Corporan joins the ‘Jacks after spending one season at Utah, appearing in 10 games as a true freshman for the Utes. The Houston native was a three year letterwinner at Westside High School, earning all-state honors as a senior.
Chip Jones and Alex Miller both come to SFA after spending two seasons as secondary teammates at Navarro College. Jones was an honorable mention all-conference selection that recorded 64 tackles and 12 tackles for loss as a sophomore. Jones graduated from Mesquite Horn High School where he was a first team all-district selection and was selected to play in the 2012 THSCA All-Star game.
Miller closed his Navarro College career with nearly 100 tackles, including 67 as a sophomore which ranked him among the top-100 in the country, complemented by four interceptions and eight pass breakups. The Allen native was a first team all-district selection for the Eagles, finishing his career with 110 total tackles.
Conque expects to add one or two more signees as SFA has returned to campus, participating in summer workouts as the countdown begins to the 2014 season. The Lumberjacks are 89 days away from the season opener at Big 12 foe Kansas State on August 30th and are 96 days shy of the 2014 home opener against Incarnate Word on September 6th.
