Senior kicker Jordan Wiggs is one of 36 candidates named to the 2014 CFPA Watch List

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin senior kicker Jordan Wiggs has been named to the 2014 College Football Performance Award Watch List for kickers, announced today by the organization. Wiggs becomes the fourth Lumberjack to be named to a CFPA Watch List, joining running back Gus Johnson and wide receivers Tyler Boyd and DJ Ward.
“Congratulations to Jordan Wiggs on earning a spot on the 2014 CFPA Placekicker Award Watch List,” said CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith. “Wiggs has been a prolific scorer over his career at Stephen F. Austin, converting 46 field goals and 130 extra points in 33 games."
Wiggs enters his senior season in Nacogodoches on the verge of becoming SFA's all-time leading scorer, amassing 268 points through his his first three seasons. The Grand Prairie native has connected on 46 of his 63 field goal attempts while converting 130 out of 136 extra point tries, leaving him just 33 points shy of surpassing Chuck Rawlison (1988-90) as SFA's all-time leading scorer.
A three-time All-Southland Conference honoree, Wiggs has notched at least 81 points in each of his three seasons at SFA, including a career-best 100 in 2013 when he connected on 14 field goals and 58 extra point tries. He has connected on 95.6 percent of his extra points and 73.0 percent of his field goal attempts, ranking among the Lumberjack all-time leaders.
The initial Watch List includes 36 returning performers vying for the top kicker award in the Football Championship Subdivision. Wiggs is one of five Southland Conference kickers named to the list, joined by Abilene Christian's Nik Grau, Central Arkansas' Eddie Camara, Lamar's Alex Ball and Sam Houston State's Luc Swimberghe.
The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Twenty-eight CFPA winners have been first-round NFL Draft selections.
Wiggs and the rest of the Lumberjacks open up the 2014 campaign on Saturday, August 30th, when SFA travels to Manhattan, Kan., to battle Big 12 foe Kansas State. The ‘Jacks open up the 2014 home schedule the following Saturday, hosting SLC newcomer Incarnate Word at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6.
