NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin head football coach Clint Conque today announced the addition of Justin Owens to the Lumberjack roster. Owens is a junior linebacker, transferring to the 'Jacks after spending two seasons at Fullerton College in Fullerton, Calif.

"We're extremely excited to add a player of Justin's caliber to the roster," Conque said. "He is very physical, very talented and plays with an edge. He had a successful high school and junior college career and will add some needed depth to our linebacking corps."

The 6-1, 217 lb. Owens spent two seasons at Fullerton, helping lead the Hornets to a 12-1 record in 2013 before falling to Butte in the CCCAA Championship Game where he was named the Defensive MVP. Owens led the team in tackles with 82, including 7.5 tackles for loss, accumulating 150 for his career and was a two-time all-conference selection. He was also named Fullerton's Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2013-14.

A native of Brea, Calif., Owens was a three year letterwinner at Brea Olinda High School where he was a three-time all-league selection. He finished his career with 128 total tackles and three interceptions, being named an all-state selection as a sophomore.

Owens and the rest of the Lumberjacks open up the 2014 campaign on Saturday, August 30th, when SFA travels to Manhattan, Kan., to battle Big 12 foe Kansas State. The `Jacks open up the 2014 home schedule the following Saturday, hosting SLC newcomer Incarnate Word at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6.
