Jefferson Named to Buchanan Award Watch List

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Senior defensive end Willie Jefferson has been named to 2012 Buck Buchanan Award Watch list announced Sports Network officials Thursday morning. The 2011 Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year is one of 20 athletes across the nation, and one of only four players in the SLC who has been named to the list.
Jefferson was named to several All-America squads following a 2011 season that saw him set school and conference records for sacks in a game. Jefferson led the conference with 15 sacks, and finished tied for fourth nationally averaging 1.36 sacks per game. Riding Jefferson's dominant performance on the field, SFA's defense finished the season ranked tops in the country in sacks and tackles for losses.
In addition to his dominating presence up front, Jefferson was also credited with five pass deflections and he picked off two passes. Both interceptions he returned for touchdowns.
SFA kicks off the 2012 regular season Thursday, Aug. 30th against Southwestern Oklahoma. The game against SWOU is slated to kick off at 6 p.m.
