Thirteen Players Receive Preseason Honors

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Thirteen Stephen F. Austin football players have been named to the 2012 College Sports Madness Preseason All-Southland Conference teams announced publication officials Friday morning. In addition to the 13 selections, five are first-team, including senior defensive end Willie Jefferson who has been named preseason defensive player of the year.
The breakdown consisted seven offensive, four defensive and two specialists. Senior receiver Cordell Roberson was the lone first-team representative on offense, and he was joined on the first team by Jefferson, defensive end Malcolm Mattox, linebacker Ryan Epperson, and punt returner Gralyn Crawford.
Crawford was also named as a second-team receiver. He was joined on the second-team offense by quarterback Brady Attaway and linemen Austin Wright and Corey Dickerson. The third-team selections include running back Jeremy Barnes, offensive linemen Greg Hall, safety Caleb Nelson and kicker Jordan Wiggs.
The Lumberjacks enter the 2012 season picked to finish second in the league behind defending conference champion Sam Houston State. SFA will kick off the new year looking for its fourth-straight winning season, and a return to the NCAA FCS Playoffs.
The 2012 season opener will be Thursday, Aug. 30 against Southwestern Oklahoma. The game against SWOU is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
