LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team has been picked to finish fourth in a preseason poll of the Southland Conference head coaches announced league officials Wednesday morning from the SLC Football Media Days in Lake Charles, La. SFA received one first-place vote, and 32 points from league head coaches, while the poll of the league's media relations directors has SFA tabbed fifth overall.

The Southland's two playoff representatives from a year ago landed at the top of both polls.

The Lumberjacks return 49 letterwinners, and 16 starters from last year's squad. Although SFA has the tough assignment of replacing four All-Americans from the 2013 season, the cupboard is not bare.

Among the 'Jacks lengthy list of returnees are senior quarterback Brady Attaway, and preseason all-conference selections D.J. Ward, Gus Johnson, Darren Robinson and Caleb Nelson. Attaway, Ward, Johnson and Robinson have been named to the CFPA Preseason Watch Lists for their respective positions, and SFA is one of only six schools to have a player named to the preseason watch list at quarterback, running back and receiver.

The Lumberjacks kick off the 2013 season Saturday, Aug. 31, at Weber State in Ogden, Utah. The game is slated to kick off at 6 p.m. (7 p.m. Nacogdoches time).
