NACOGDOCHES, Texas -
Stephen F. Austin sophomore kicker Jordan Wiggs has been named to the 2012 Fred Mitchell Award Watch List announced Award Selection Committee Chairman Chris Kearney Monday evening. The award is handed out every year to the nation's top kicker who displays excellence on the field as well as in the community.
Wiggs is one of 44 kickers named to the list, which are selected from all levels of college football. The rising sophomore is one of only 16 FCS kickers, and one of only two from the Southland Conference. Wiggs led SFA with 87 points last season, and was a near perfect 36-of-38 on extra point attempts. He also converted 17-of-24 (.708) field goal attempts.
The Lumberjacks will open the 2012 campaign Thursday, Aug. 30th against Southwestern Oklahoma. The game against SWOU is slated to kick off at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
