'Jacks Host Boys & Girls' Club Clinic

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team ceased being players and for a short time and took upon the role of coaches Saturday morning at Homer Bryce Stadium. Approximately 100 children from the Boys and Girls' Club of Nacogdoches arrived at SFA to participate in a skills clinic put on the by the Lumberjack coaches and players.
The clinic began an 9 a.m. in the SFA Athletic Fieldhouse where the kids watched the 2006 Lumberjack highlight video before taking a tour of the athletic facilities. Following the tour it was time to get down to business as the SFA players and kids braved the East Texas heat. The clinic was divided into stations teaching the children various offense, defense and speed drills.
NOTES: The Lumberjacks will return to the field at 3 p.m. for their first official workout of fall camp. The practice session will be a conditioning workout. The 'Jacks will don full pads for the first time Wednesday afternoon.
SFA will take part in three scrimmages during preseason drills. The scrimmages will be Saturday, Aug. 11, Saturday Aug. 18 and Wednesday, Aug. 22.
The Lumberjacks kickoff the 2007 season Saturday, Sept. 1, when they host Tarleton State. The game against the Texans is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
