A day after reporting to camp, the two-time defending Southland Conference Champion Stephen F. Austin football team officially kicked off training camp with a 7 a.m. Friday practice behind Homer Bryce Stadium on the practice fields. The Lumberjacks are also scheduled to practice at 7 p.m.
The `Jacks have two planned scrimmages prior to their season-opener Thursday, Sept. 1 when they host McMurry. SFA returns 48 letterwinners, and 20 starters from a team that went 9-3 and finished ranked among the nation's top 10.
Nine offensive starters return to an offense that led the nation in passing the past two years and return four offensive linemen that helped SFA finish among the nation's top-20 in pass protection during that same span. Amongst the offensive weapons includes receivers Gralyn Crawford and Cordell Roberson and offensive lineman George Bias, who have been named to several preseason All-America squads.
SFA brings back a strong defense that includes the likes of Devin Ducote, Josh Aubrey, Ben Wells and Derrick Choice.
