DALLAS -- With the 2000 collegiate football season set to begin in three weeks, the
Southland Football League announced today that FOX Sports Net will televise part of the SFL
schedule for the fifth consecutive year. Plans to televise two SFL games have been finalized
with other games still under consideration.
Both contests are on Thursdays and will air live at 6:30 p.m. Central Time on Fox Sports Net's
Southwest affiliate in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and parts of New Mexico. In
addition, both games will be carried live in Alabama on the network's South affiliate.
The Southland Football League crowned co-champions last season and each will be featured in
these television games. Co-champion Troy State, which advanced to the 1999 NCAA
quarterfinals, will host Southwest Texas on Oct. 12. Then on Oct. 26, co-champion Stephen F.
Austin will visit Jacksonville State.
Gary Reasons and Kevin Eschenfelder will return to the booth to handle color commentary and
play-by-play duties, respectively.
Reasons, a Northwestern State All-American, was a nine-year National Football League
standout who helped the New York Giants win two Super Bowl championships. He was also
the first player in NCAA Division I-AA history to win All-America honors in three successive
seasons. During his career as a Demon from 1980-83, Reasons, a College Football Hall of
Fame inductee in 1996, recorded 394 tackles.
Eschenfelder is the host of Southwest Sports Tonight.
FOX Sports Net delivers programming to more than 7 million viewers through its Southwest
affiliate and 1.2 million in Alabama.
