Willie Jefferson Plays in Texans First Exhibition of 2013
Aug. 11, 2013
Within a 24-hour time frame, four former Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack All-Americans stepped on the football field for their respective NFL teams, including three who wrapped up their collegiate careers in Nacogdoches last season. Former defensive end Willie Jefferson was the final member of that group when he stepped on the field Friday night as the Houston Texans took on the Minnesota Vikings in Minneapolis.
Jefferson, who made the move from defensive end to linebacker since signing with the Texans, has impressed Houston's coaching staff. He has even taken advantage of some injuries ahead of him on the depth chart to spend some time with the first-team defense.
He finished Friday's game against the Vikings recording one tackle, and deflecting a pass. In the two games, the former 'Jacks combined to record five tackles, including three solo stops, one pass deflection and haul in a 26-yard touchdown reception. So far the three rookies have helped guide their teams to a 2-0 preseason record. The Browns picked up a 27-19 victory over St. Louis, while the Texans defeated Minnesota, 27-13.
