'Jacks Garner More Top 25 Recognition

'Jacks ranked 20th in two preseason polls.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks five-game win streak to close the 2011 season, along with the return of 10 starters on offense and several big-name players on defense has made a significant impact on pollsters around the country. SFA has been ranked 20th in the Sports Network and College Sports Madness Preseason Top 25 polls.

SFA has found itself ranked in numerous preseason top 25 polls between No. 13 and 25. The 'Jacks return several key players on both sides of the ball. Offensively SFA returns starting quarterback Brady Attaway, in addition to All-American receivers Cordell Roberson and Gralyn Crawford.

The defense will look to ends Willie Jefferson and Malcolm Mattox, linebacker Ryan Epperson and cornerback Josh Aubrey for leadership. Jefferson is a preseason All-America selection, while Mattox was a second-team All-SLC selection. The duo combined to lead the league in sacks last year. The Lumberjacks as a team ranked first nationally in sacks and tackles for losses.

After two years playing behind an All-American, Epperson finally got his chance to start and responded by leading the league in tackles, while Aubrey has been one of the league's top corners each of the past three seasons.

SFA held its first scrimmage of preseason camp Sunday evening. The team's second scrimmage is slated for Sunday, Aug. 19.
