Senior running back Vincent Pervis and freshman kicker Evan Engwall have been named Southland Conference Players of the Week announced league officials Monday afternoon. Pervis was named offensive player of the week, while Engwall has earned his third special teams honor in four weeks.
Pervis had a career-night carrying the ball 17 times for a career-high 154 yards. The Texas City senior also averaged 9.1 yards per carry. Pervis is currently second in the conference, and ranked 23rd in the nation averaging 93.8 yards per carry.
Engwall, who has won three of the four weekly awards, continues to impress as the nation's second-rated kicker. The Derby, Kan., native was perfect on all attempts setting a new career-high with 17 points. Engwall was a perfect 3-of-3 on field goals recording makes of 30, 28 and 29 yards. He was also a perfect 8-of-8 on extra point attempts.
The Lumberjacks will take the week off before returning to action Saturday, Oct. 10, to face ninth-ranked McNeese State. The game against the Cowboys is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
