Oct. 3, 2012
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin sophomore running back Gus Johnson has been named a College Sporting News National Weekly All-Star announced publication officials. Johnson gained the recognition following his performance in the Lumberjacks' 42-37 upset of No. 14 Central Arkansas.
Johnson carried the ball 32 times for 215 yards and four touchdowns against the Bears. All three numbers are career highs for the Gilmer, Texas native. Johnson's 215 yards is the sixth-best single-game performance in school history, and was the first 200-yard rushing game for a Lumberjack since the 2006 season. It was also the most rushing yards in a game by a Lumberjack since the 1999 season. He also tied a single-game school record with his 24 points in the game.
The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday when they travel to Houston, to face Sam Houston State in the annual Battle of the Piney Woods. The game is slated to begin at 3 p.m., and will be televised on the Southland Network.
