Oct. 12, 2009
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Following their thrilling 16-13 victory over No. 7 McNeese State Saturday evening, the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football jumped into the Sports Network and FCS Coaches Top 25 polls announced in a release Monday afternoon. The Lumberjacks head into their meeting with No. 10 Central Arkansas ranked 20th in the Sports Network poll and 21st in the FCS Coaches Poll.
The Lumberjacks are 4-1 (.800) on the season, and 1-0 in Southland Conference play following their three-point win over seventh-ranked McNeese State. The victory, which is SFA's fourth consecutive, marked the first win over the Cowboys since 2004.
It is the first time the Lumberjacks have appeared in the top 25 since Oct. 15, 2005. That season SFA entered its game against McNeese State ranked 24th but dropped a 33-23 decision to the Cowboys in Lafayette, La.
The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Lumberjacks as they travel to Conway, Ark., to take on No. 10 Central Arkansas (4-1/1-0 SLC). The game against the Bears is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Estes Stadium. The game will also be televised on Southland Conference Television Network (local cable channel 8). It marks the second consecutive week the Lumberjacks will play a televised game against a top-10 team.
