'JACKS RETURN HOME FOR A HOMECOMING SHOWDOWN: The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks will look to rebound from a 51-43 setback to No. 9 Sam Houston State, when they host Nicholls State (1-4/0-2 SLC) Saturday. The Lumberjacks are 2-4 (.333) on the season, and have split their last two games, both against nationally ranked foes, but are coming off a heartbreaking eight-point loss to the Bearkats in Houston. The Colonels have lost two consecutive, including a 41-0 setback to the Bearkats last week. Saturday's game is slated to kick off at 3 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium and will be televised on the Southland Television Network.
SFA vs. THE COLONELS: The Lumberjacks have dominated the all-time series against Nicholls holding a 21-7 (.750) all-time record. The Lumberjacks have won four-straight, six of seven, and 11 of the last 13 against the Colonels. The Lumberjacks are 11-3 (.786) all-time agianst Nicholls in Nacogdoches since 1984. The last SFA setback was a 17-16 decision in Nacogdoches during the 2007 season, when a missed extra point cost the 'Jacks against the nationally ranked Colonels.
SFA IN HOMECOMING GAMES: The Lumberjacks are 36-35-1 (.507) all-time in Homecoming games, and have won two of the last three, including a 37-17 victory over McNeese State last season. SFA is 2-2 (.500) all-time against Nicholls in homecoming games, but this is the first homecoming showdown since the 1999 season.
SFA IN TELEVISED GAMES: SFA is 15-20 (.429) in televised games dating back to 1998. The Lumberjacks have won six of their last 11 televised games, but have won only two of the last five, and are coming off three losses this season (at SMU, Montana State and Sam Houston State). Saturday's game is one of at least five game that will be televised in 2012.
SFA IN AFTERNOON GAMES: Saturday's contest will be one of three afternoon games this season. The Lumberjacks are 0-2 in afternoon games in 2012, but were 2-1 (.667) in 2011.
REACHING THE CENTURY MARK: Senior Cordell Roberson recorded his fifth 100-yard receiving game of the season against Sam Houston State, while freshman DJ Ward posted his first. It was the first time SFA had two receivers record 100 yards in the same game since the 2010 season (vs. Northwestern State).
SLC RECORD BOOKS: Senior Cordell Roberson became the SFA, and Southland Conference's all-time leader in touchdown receptions at Texas State. He became the school's all-time leader in catches and receiving yards against Sam Houston State.
THE COACHES: J.C. Harper became the 18th head coach of the SFA Lumberjack football team in December 2006. A two-time SLC Coach of the Year, Harper has guided SFA to two conference titles and NCAA playoff appearances. He is 31-34 (.477) in his sixth season as a head coach. Nicholls State head coach Charlie Stubbs is 6-20 (.231) in his third season in Thibodaux, La.
