FRISCO, Texas -
Senior defensive end Tim Knicky and senior offensive lineman Max Holmes have been named 2009 Capital One Bank Academic All-Southland Conference announced league officials Monday afternoon. Knicky is making his third consecutive appearance on the squad, while Holmes is making his first appearance on the team.
A two-time All-America selection, Knicky closed out his SFA career by guiding the Lumberjacks to one of their best seasons in school history. SFA won the 2009 SLC title with a 10-3 overall record, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA FCS Playoffs.
A two-time first-team All-SLC selection, Knicky finished the season second in the nation in sacks (1.04 pg). He recorded 41 tackles, including 15 for losses, and 12.5 sacks this season. He was only one sack shy of tying the league's single-season mark for sacks.
Holmes has been a starter on the Lumberjack offensive line for the past two seasons, after transferring from LSU. He switched to center midway through his junior campaign and never relinquished his spot. A 2009 second-team All-SLC selection, Holmes anchored one of the strongest offensive fronts in the nation. Not only did Holmes protect conference a co-player of the year, and help produce a second-team all-conference running back, Holmes was the catalyst for an offensive that set several school, conference and national records over the course of the past two seasons.
