Men's Golf Seventh on First Day of Spring Season Opener

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team opened the 2013 spring schedule Monday at the Rice Intercollegiate. The Lumberjacks shot a 292-298 - 590 on the opening day of the tournament at the Westwood Golf Club. The Lumberjacks enter the final day of competition seventh in the 14-team field.

Sophomore Blake Pugh fired a one-over 145 to lead SFA, and place tied for ninth. Senior Mitchell McLeroy had a rollercoaster day, after opening with one of the lowest rounds of the tournament (69), he struggled to a second-round 78. McLeroy is tied for 24th with 18 holes remaining.

Freshman Luke Sheehan is currently tied for 41st with a 150, while classmate Major Monzingo is a stroke back (151 - T44th). Sophomore Austin DeWitt rounded out the team scoring with a 78-75 - 153 to finish the day tied for 52nd.

The 14-team field returns to action for the final round Tuesday at 8 a.m. The 'Jacks will tee off on holes No. 8-10.
