SFA 12th After Opening Day of Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin currently sits in 12th-place after the opening two rounds of the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club. SFA posted a 28-over 604 through the opening 36 holes, sitting five strokes out of a top-10 showing.
SFA opened up the tournament with a 16-over 304, pitting the Lumberjacks against a challenging 17-team field. The ‘Jacks were able to trim four shots off its score in the second round, firing a 12-over 300 to settle into 12th with one round to go.
Junior Blake Pugh sits atop the SFA scorecard after shooting a pair of 3-over 75s, posting a 6-over 150 through the opening two rounds. Sophomore Major Monzingo is one shot back, carding a 7-over 151 (76-75) as both he and Pugh try to crack the top-50 of the individual standings.
Fellow sophomore Luke Sheehan is three strokes back of Pugh after a 9-over 153 (78-75) through the first two rounds. Redshirt freshman Baxter Ward is six shots off the pace with a 12-over 156 (81-75) with junior Bradley Phelps’ 14-over 158 (75-83) rounding out the Lumberjack scorecard.
SFA enters Saturday’s final round four shots back of 11th-place Sam Houston State (24-over 600) and is five back of 10th-place Air Force (23-over 599) as the ‘Jacks try to secure their ninth top-10 showing of the season.
Oklahoma sits atop the leaderboard with a 7-under 569 on Friday, leading second-place Baylor (4-under 572) by three shots. Host Houston (2-over 578) is third with Louisiana-Monroe (8-over 584) and Southland Conference rival Lamar (13-over 589) rounding out the top-five.
Saturday’s final round gets underway at 8 a.m. with SFA teaming up with Gonzaga, Air Force and Sam Houston State in the final round pairings. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com with full results posted as they become available at SFAJacks.com.
