, Stephen F. Austin closed out the 2014 Arkansas-Little Rock First Tee Classic tied for sixth among the 14-team field.
SFA posted a 31-over 319 over the final 18 holes of the tournament, closing out the 54-hole event with a 52-over 916, two shots better than Arkansas State (54-over 918). The Lumberjacks tied for sixth with UT-Martin, five shots back of Missouri State (47-over 911), which place fifth.
Sheehan posted the low round of the day for the ‘Jacks, carding a 6-over 78 to finish with a 10-over 226, tying for 11th-place overall. It is the sixth top-20 finish of the season for Sheehan and the 10th of his career.
Ward joined Sheehan among the top-20 of the individual standings, shooting a 7-over 79 in the final round to finish with a 12-over 228. Ward tied for 17th overall, the third top-20 finish of the redshirt freshman’s career.
Sophomore Major Monzingo continued his strong play, shooting a 14-over 230 (79-71-80) to finish tied for 25th overall. Juniors Blake Pugh and Bradley Phelps rounded out the SFA scorecard as Pugh finished with a 17-over 233 (74-76-83) with Phelps carding a 26-over 242 (79-81-82).
Louisiana-Monroe captured the team title with a 25-over 889, besting Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State (29-over 893) by four strokes. Fellow SLC foe McNeese State (31-over 895) finished third with Lipscomb (41-over 905) and Missouri State rounding out the top-five.
SFA has one final tournament remaining in the regular season, heading north to McKinney to compete in the Texas State Jim West Intercollegiate April 7-8. It marks the final tuneup before the 2014 Southland Conference Championships, which will also be held in McKinney April 21-23.
