April 9, 2013
The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team recorded its strongest round of the week Tuesday afternoon to finish fifth at the Jim West Intercollegiate in McKinney, Texas. The Lumberjacks shot a 292 in the final round to finish with a three-round 296-309-292 - 897 on the 7,417-yard, par-72 TPC Craig Ranch Golf Course.
Senior Mitchell McLeroy led the 'Jacks by carding a 73-76-73 - 222. McLeroy tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard with teammate Blake Pugh who rallied from a disastrous second round of action. Pugh recorded an eight-over par 80 in Monday's second round of action, but battled back with a two-under 70 to sneak into the top 10.
Freshman Luke Sheehan struggled in the final round, being the only Lumberjack to not improve upon his second round score, but was still able to finish third on the team's leaderboard. Sheehan tied for 29th with a 73-77-79 - 229. Sophomore Austin DeWitt recorded the team's fourth lowest score. He shot a three-over Tuesday to finish with a 231 (T37th). Freshman Major Monzingo closed out the SFA scorecard with a 78-80-74 - 232.
The 'Jacks will take a week off before returning to action Monday, April 22, at the Southland Conference Championships. The three-day tournament will be held in Arlington, Texas.
